Moving Within Florida?
Florida’s Save Our Homes Portability rule lets you take your property tax savings with you when you move — and it’s not just for seniors.
If your current home’s market value is higher than its assessed value (thanks to the 3% cap), that difference — up to $500,000 — can be transferred to your next Florida home, helping keep your new property taxes lower.
To qualify, you’ll need to:
Have (or had) a Florida homestead exemption
Establish a new Florida homestead within 3 years
File forms DR-501 (Homestead Exemption Application) and DR-501T (Transfer of Homestead Assessment Difference) with your county property appraiser
For Brevard County Florida residents, you can find everything here:

Forms: bcpao.us/forms.aspx

Whether you’re upsizing, downsizing, or moving closer to the beach, portability can make your next home more affordable.
